SEA GAMES(Football): FAM president predicts win over Myanmar

Fam President - Sultan Ahmad Shah

BEATING noisy neighbours and hosts Indonesia in their backyard on Thursday indicates that Malaysia are capable of defending the gold medal won in Vientiane two years ago.

FA of Malaysia president Sultan Ahmad Shah said the national team, after their morale boosting 1-0 win against Indonesia at the Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta, should now focus on beating Myanmar in the semi-final today and march into the final on Monday to clinch the gold medal.

Sultan Ahmad Shah said he expects the national Under-23 team, led by Ong Kim Swee, to reach their second consecutive Sea Games football final.

“Now having progressed into the semi-finals, our ultimate target has to be making the final and emerge as champions. We will either play Vietnam or maybe have a rematch with hosts Indonesia in the final,” said Sultan Ahmad Shah in Kuantan yesterday.

Sultan Ahmad Shah predicted Malaysia will beat Myanmar 2-0 today.
